JOHN SINGLETON COPLEY (1738-1815)

The Three Youngest Daughters of George III

Signed and dated 1785

RCIN 401405

A sense of natural childhood exuberance and sisterly affection is captured in John Singleton Copley's image of the three youngest daughters of George III and Queen Charlotte. It shows the two-year-old Princess Amelia sitting in a carriage, holding the hand of her sister, the eight-year-old Princess Sophia and looking towards Princess Mary, aged nine, who plays a tambourine.
