Fenton made a number of group portraits of men from the five Light Cavalry regiments that charged on 25 October. News of the action had caught the public imagination, and the names of the regiments became well known. Fenton may have felt that photographs of the men who fought in the regiments in the Charge of the Light Brigade had great commercial potential.
