ROGER FENTON (1819-69)

Colonel Grant

1855

RCIN 2500267

Colonel Grant served with the 42nd (Royal Highland) Regiment of Foot (The Black Watch) during the Crimean War. Fenton took a large number of photographs of men from the 42nd and other Scottish regiments whilst in the Crimea. Newspaper reports of the Highlanders’ bravery and their significant role in key engagements made them popular with the British public.
