While staying at Balmoral Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 21 September 1853, the Queen visited the Lochnagar Loch with two of her daughters and members of her household. Queen Victoria describes "the fine, severe, corries & upright cliffs surrounding the wild Loch" in her journal entry of that day.
