Queen Victoria's entry into Paris, 18 August 1855 dated 1855
RCIN 920060
The royal party is here seen passing under a temporary triumphal arch near the Rue Le Peletier, decorated with the flags of both nations and the imperial eagle. Napoleon III was consciously adopting the majestic imagery of his uncle Napoleon Bonaparte, who had erected the Arc de Triomphe on the Champs Elysées.
