After leaving Cheam School, Prince Philip spent a year at Salem School in Germany. He returned to Britain in 1934 to attend Gordonstoun School in Scotland, founded (like Salem) by the educational pioneer Kurt Hahn (1880-1974) in the previous year. Prince Philip did well at sports and was captain of both the hockey and the cricket teams. He was Guardian (Head Boy) in his last term.
