His Royal Highness took up carriage driving in 1972 and was an active participant in carriage-driving events between 1972 and 2006, representing Great Britain on a number of occasions. He now acts as an official during competitions. This photograph shows the Duke making his way through the water obstacle of the marathon section of the 1983 International Driving Grand Prix at Windsor. He came second in this section and fourth in the overall event.
