LEOPOLDO DUMINI (ACTIVE 1893)

Elisabeth Vigee-Lebrun (1755-1842)

May 1893

RCIN 407235

This is a copy of Vigée-Lebrun's self-portrait commissioned in 1789 for the collection of artist's self-portraits in the Galleria degli Uffizi in Florence. The artist is shown painting Marie-Antoinette, her most famous patron. Vigée-Lebrun deliberately delayed sending the original self-portrait for two years so that she could display it as an example of her talent while trying to conquer the Italian market during her exile as a result of the French Revolution.
