The print reproduces a painting of the three Italian artists who had been among the founder members of the Royal Academy. Carlini is leaning on a sculpted head, one of the keystones that he was then carving for the external decoration of Somerset House. Bartolozzi holds his engraver's burin, and Cipriani is seated at a canvas on which is outlined a personification of Fame. The compatriots occupy each other's space with an easy familiarity.
