ANNIBALE CARRACCI (BOLOGNA 1560-ROME 1609)

A young man drawing

c. 1585-90

RCIN 905428

A young artist is shown drawing a portrait or caricature with a quill pen. The wide hat obscures most of the artist's features, but what is seen of the face is finely and carefully drawn (unlike the exuberantly rough handling of the rest of the sheet) and was presumably intended to depict an individual, quite possibly Annibale’s brother Agostino.
