ANTONIO MARIA ZANETTI THE ELDER (1680-1767)

A self-portrait in carnival costume, sketching

c. 1740

RCIN 907419

The drawing was placed as the tailpiece to an album of caricatures by Zanetti and Marco Ricci of Venetian society – actors and opera singers, the local aristocracy and northern European nobility on the Grand Tour. Here Zanetti caricatures himself, wearing a carnival costume and drawing an opera singer in a full-length gown.
