ROBERT SEYMOUR BRIDGES (1844-1930)

Eros and Psyche: a poem in XII measures

1935

RCIN 1121523

This beautiful edition of ‘Eros and Psyche’ by Robert Bridges was printed and bound by the Welsh private press Gregynog Press in 1935. The poem is illustrated by woodcuts after the Pre-Raphaelite painter Edward Burne-Jones (1833 – 98). This opening shows one such illustration, in which the god Pan prevents Psyche from taking a fatal draught from the river Lethe. Queen Mary continued to collect Bridges’s work after his death. Presented to Queen Mary by Loyd Haberly of the Gregynog Press, 1935
