Francis Williamson was first introduced to Queen Victoria by her artistic daughter Princess Louise, and he became her favourite sculptor. During the 1880s and 90s he created over 200 portrait busts, many of the royal family. This bust of Alfred Tennyson was created in 1893 as a memorial to the well-loved Poet Laureate, who had died the previous year. Acquired by Queen Victoria
