Dorothy Wilding: Photographing The Queen

To celebrate the Platinum Jubilee in summer 2022, the special exhibition at Buckingham Palace will feature some of the most important works of art and craftsmanship relating to Her Majesty The Queen's accession to the throne seventy years ago, in 1952.

Among these will be a series of photographs of The Queen taken by Dorothy Wilding. These have become some of the most enduring images of the Royal Family, and of 20th-century Britain more generally, as they form the basis for the profiles and silhouettes of Her Majesty that we see on stamps and coins to this day.

In this short film, Collections Information Officer Siân Cooksey and Senior Curator of Photographs Alessandro Nasini take us through the life and work of this remarkable woman and pioneering photographer.
