HM Queen Elizabeth II (b. 1926)

15 - 15 Apr 1952

Gelatin silver print | 24.7 x 17.9 cm (whole object) | RCIN 2152956

Wilding made two different studies for the Bank of England commission in 1956, with The Queen wearing different dresses and jewels. The second group of images shows The Queen wearing a lace evening dress, the badge and sash of the Order of the Garter, secured with Queen Mary’s Dorset Bow brooch, as well as the Diamond Diadem. The resulting images show the introduction of more complex settings with architectural features and furniture and a softer lighting arrangement.
