JOHANNES KIP (1652/3-1722)

The Royall Palace and Town of Windsor

circa

RCIN 700142

The central canal has been extended and is now surrounded by parterres à l’anglaise, ornamental beds laid out in patterns with cut turf. Kip’s engraving may record a temporary configuration of the garden, or it may show fanciful details of parterres that were never implemented. A plan of the garden made by Henry Wise of 1712 shows a significantly different layout.
