This portière, or door curtain, depicts the goddess Venus as Summer. She sits in an arbour which is covered in flowers, while putti below use watering cans and place floral wreaths around a fountain. This portière would have kept out winter drafts and provided a reminder of the summer months to come. The border also features two more watering cans, perhaps a unique elevation into decorative art for an otherwise everyday garden implement.
