WORKSHOP OF MARIA SIBYLLA MERIAN (1647-1717)

False Coral Snake, Banded Cat-Eyed Snake and frogs

c. 1705?

RCIN 921226

This watercolour was probably arranged from specimens brought back from Suriname by Merian and Dorothea. The animated poses of the reptiles are more typical of the work of Merian’s daughters than of Merian herself.
