Amsterdam: The Town Hall with the Weigh House and Damrak and Amsterdam: Dam Square with the West Porch of the New Church and the Town Hall, 1743

Amsterdam was a prosperous city which benefitted from trade all over the world. These two watercolours show (first) Dam Square, at the heart of the city, from the south, with the weigh house in front of the Town Hall (now the Royal Palace) and the trading ships moored on the stretch of water known as the Damrak; and (second) the Town Hall from the north-east, with the New Church in the foreground.
