A lily c.1475
RCIN 912418
The lily was a symbol of purity in depictions of the Virgin. This drawing is probably by the great sculptor and painter Andrea del Verrocchio, in whose studio Leonardo worked as a young man. The close attention to detail must have made a powerful impression on Leonardo, as he retained the drawing alongside his own to the end of his life.
