CHARLES WILD (1781-1835)

Kensington Palace: The King’s Gallery

1816

Watercolour with touches of bodycolour over etched outlines | 19.8 x 25.0 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 922158

This watercolour is one of 100 views of royal residences published by W.H. Pyne between 1816 and 1819. Together, the images show the extent to which Japanese furniture was incorporated into palace furnishings at that time. Here, three lacquer cabinets at Kensington Palace are used for dramatic displays of blue-and-white porcelain.
