Hitoe Shiro Higan Shidare Sakura

1925-29

Gelatin silver print | RCIN 2862265

A photograph of the venerated Higan weeping cherry tree (Hitoe Shiro Higan Shidare Sakura) in full bloom at night. The tree, which consisted the greatest attraction of Maruyama Park during the cherry blossom season, started to dry-up soon after this photograph was taken, and eventually died in 1947. It was replaced by a similar variety two years later.
