This watch was presented by Charles II to Jane Lane in 1651 in recognition of her bravery while helping him flee from England to France after defeat at the Battle of Worcester. Henry Grendon was a well known watchmaker of his day, with premises in the Royal Exchange, an important shopping district in the seventeenth century.
