Toilet service

hallmarks 1699-1824

RCIN 50478

The collection of items appearing on a woman’s dressing table was known as a toilet service and might include a mirror and pots for cosmetics. A toilet service was often given as a wedding gift from the groom to the bride. The six pieces here date from the seventeenth century, but are part of a larger composite set containing elements ranging in date from 1699 to 1824.
