Lady Bowes wears a bodice with broad sleeves cut in the fashionable virago style, with panes of fabric held in place by contrasting ribbons. Spangles (sequins punched from sheets of precious metal) are used to decorate the bodice and skirt. Her striking jewellery includes a bracelet, perhaps of carnelian, a pearl and bead alternate set chain twisted at the neck, and bell-shaped earrings. Prominently displayed in her left hand is a watch in a hinged case.
