Oct 1982Nov 1982

RCIN 2051357

The wreck of Henry VIII’s warship, the Mary Rose, which sunk in the Solent in 1545, was discovered off Portsmouth in 1967. The Mary Rose Trust was established in 1979 to manage the salvage of the great ship. As President of the Trust, The Prince of Wales has played an active part in supporting the project. He dived on the wreck 9 times before it was raised from the seabed in 1982. During one of these dives in 1980 he recovered the pulley block, which was presented to him when he opened the Mary Rose Exhibition in 1984.
