Stag Hunting scene in a park

Riders and hounds are shown pursuing a stag in front of the Gothic gatehouse of Lanhydrock, near Bodmin. The gatehouse was built between 1636 and 1651. Rowlandson was a regular visitor to Cornwall, where his patron Mathew Michell had a house and where he made many topographical watercolours. Cat. 41
