THOMAS ROWLANDSON (1757-1827)

A runaway carriage

1 Nov 1793

RCIN 810454

Although the carriages, figures and animals have been etched by Rowlandson, the landscape in this print has been added later in pencil and crudely coloured. Rowlandson made a number of prints for amateur artists to copy and colour, but this is an ordinary satirical print which has been used as a colouring exercise. Probably purchased by Queen Victoria, 1854 Cat. 40
