Balmoral interiors

In the early 1870s, Wilson returned to Balmoral to record a selection of interiors. He was entrusted with photographing the most private spaces, including the queen’s bedroom. Prince Albert’s room had been preserved by the queen after his death.

A photograph of the prince by Bryan Edward Duppa (1804-66) is placed prominently in the centre of an octagonal table in the foreground of the picture of his room. The chair and sofa covers include the thistle that features in the ‘Balmoral’ chintz.
