GERARD EDELINCK (1640-1707)

Jacques III. Roy d'Angleterre &c.

c.1704-07

RCIN 603505

George’s interest in the Stuarts saw him form a fine collection of material relating to the heirs of James II, who continued to claim the throne after the king’s overthrow in 1688. This French engraving shows the sixteenyear old son of James II as ‘James III, King of England’. The title has been printed from a second plate, which was probably added to impressions printed after the sitter assumed the claim to the throne on the death of his father in 1701.
