ROGER FENTON (1819-69)

Prince Alfred (1844-1900), Balmoral

1856

RCIN 2941853

In 1856, Prince Alfred (1844-1900) was shortly to leave his family in order to begin his naval career. The prince was photographed at least twice by Fenton at Balmoral. On both occasions, he appears to be lost in thought as he lies on the ground, dressed in his tweed jacket and kilt.
