Childhood

Surviving clothes from The Queen’s childhood tend to be formal or ceremonial items worn on special occasions which were carefully preserved.

Even so, these formal clothes – usually elegant coats and hats – would be worn in public on multiple occasions, like the examples shown here belonging to Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret.
