Messages of Goodwill from around the world brought to the Moon by the Astronauts Apollo 11

c. 1969

RCIN 2511493

On 14 October 1969, the Apollo 11 astronauts, Neil Armstrong, Colonel Michael Collins and Colonel Edwin E. (Buzz) Aldrin Jr had an audience of The Queen at Buckingham Palace. On this occasion they presented this framed panel of an exact duplicate of the silicon disc that they had placed on the surface of the moon. The disc contained goodwill messages, which are enlarged on the framed panel, from United States Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon and the leaders of 73 nations including a message from Her Majesty The Queen. The messages were photographed and reduced to 1/200 scale ultra microfiche etching. Around the rim is the statement ‘From Planet Earth – July 1969’.
