Evening gown of plain ivory silk crêpe. A bow on the left shoulder falls into a draped panel of fabric. The hem of the skirt is embroidered with a band of rich and elaborate gold and silver sequins and beads.

  • In 1949-51 The Queen (as Princess Elizabeth) joined The Duke of Edinburgh in Malta, where he was stationed as a serving Royal Navy officer. They revisited in May 1954, on the return leg of their first Commonwealth tour, but it was not until November 1967 that The Queen made her first visit as Sovereign to an independent Malta when she wore this gown for an evening engagement.
