Worn for a State Banquet, Beijing, during the State Visit to China, October 1986. For this historic first visit by a reigning British monarch to China, Ian Thomas designed an evening dress of pink silk embroidered with sprays of Tree Peony blossoms, the national flower of China and a revered symbol in Chinese art and culture.
