In Book Three of the Bhagavata Purana, the demon Hiranyaksha steals the earth and drags her deep into the cosmic ocean. As Brahma (the creator god) contemplates how to retrieve her, Varaha (the boar incarnation of Vishnu) appears out of his nostril.
