Poetry

These pages are from an album of poetry and paintings assembled at the Mughal court c.1600.The paintings are in a style known as nim-qalam (half-pen), minimally coloured with light washes. The same artist painted these two contrasting depictions of poetry recitals. One is in an Iranian style, the other in the style of a sixteenth-century European engraving.
