ADRIAEN VAN DE VELDE (AMSTERDAM 1636-AMSTERDAM 1672)

A Hawking Party Setting Out

Signed and dated 1666

RCIN 406966

The lady riding side-saddle is the epitome of elegance. Her rich clothing and fine horse mark her out as a romanticheroine. Her husband leads the way and a page reins in his horse behind. The landscape itself, with refined trees carefully spaced in the composition, echoes the overall impression of grace. Acquired by George IV in 1810 No. 16
