ROGER FENTON (1819-69)

The Queen's Target, Wimbledon

2 Jul 1860

RCIN 2941855

The simplicity and directness of this photograph make it one of the most striking examples of nineteenth century photography in existence. It shows the bullet hole on the target, created by Queen Victoria when she fired the fixed Whiteworth Rifle at a distance of 400 yards.
