One of a series of four self-portraits made by Prince Alfred at the age of twenty. The Prince, as other members of the Royal Family, was introduced to photography by Dr Becker, librarian to Prince Albert and an assistant tutor to the young Princes. Under Becker's tutorship, the young Prince Alfred became a proficient and talented photographer.
