A three quarter length, double portrait of Queen Victoria (1819-1901) and her eldest daughter Victoria, the Princess Royal (1840-1901). They are shown in three quarter view, facing left. The queen is wearing a dark coloured silk gown, with a white lace fichu, adorned with a brooch. The Princess Royal looks directly at the viewer and leans against her mother, nestled under her right arm. She is wearing a dark coloured silk dress, trimmed with white lace. She is wearing a pendant on a black ribbon around her neck, and is holding a doll in her arms.
This is probably the earliest photographic likeness of the Queen and the Princess Royal.
