Prince Arthur in fancy costume, Skating Carnival, Canada

Jan 1870

RCIN 2902207

Prince Arthur, who was appointed a Lieutenant on 3 August 1869, left England for Canada later in the month to join his regiment, the First Battalion of the Rifle Brigade, which was then stationed in Montreal. While stationed there he attended a number of parties, including the Skating Carnival, at which he seems to have appeared as King Charles I.
