Queen Victoria met the Bishop of Minnesota on 7 December 1890 at Windsor Castle. Describing the occasion in her Journal, the Queen wrote 'The dean [of Windsor] said he was reverenced throughout America for his extraordinary work & influence, as a sort of father & guide to the Red Indian Tribes, among whom he had spent many years of his long life'.
