CHARLES THURSTON THOMPSON (1816-68)

A Quiet Moment

1854

RCIN 2906105

This photograph was one of those shown at the first exhibition of the Photographic Society, held in Suffolk Street in London, in 1854. Queen Victoria and Prince Albert visited the exhibition on 3 January, when they 'evinced much more interest in the specimens exhibited than is ordinarily displayed on the occasion of a Royal visit, and expressed their wish ... to become the possessors of some of the more select specimens.' This was one such pictures and, according to a press review, 'was as pleasing to us as it is said to have been to Her Majesty.'
