Louise de Kéroualle became Charles II's principal mistress in 1671 and remained in his affections until his death. Originally from Brittany, Louise became maid of honour to Catherine of Braganza and soon attracted the king's attention. As Charles's mistress, she occupied magnificent apartments at Whitehall and was influential at court.
