PREVIOUSLY ATTRIBUTED TO JAMES II, KING OF GREAT BRITAIN (1633-1701)

James II's notebook

c. 1677-8

RCIN 1006014

This notebook records the births of 10 of James, Duke of York's children born between 1662 and 1677. Sadly the notebook also records the deaths of most of the children: only two of those listed, Mary and Anne (later Mary II and Queen Anne), survived to adulthood. The death of James's first wife, Anne Hyde, is also recorded, alongside a lock of hair.
