Public dining and display
Magnificent displays of silver and silver gilt plate were a patent reflection of the wealth and power of the monarchy. Finely chased silver sconces arranged around the walls reflected the light from candles and when the king dined in public, an impressive display of plate was arranged on a sideboard or buffet.
