Contemporary black goatskin, with the arms of Charles II blocked in gilt with the letters C R above in the centre of the upper and lower covers, gilt, double-fillet border, central panel of a triple-fillet border with roll-tool, with decorations in the corners of a closed flower tool and to the sides with volutes and dots; spine in seven panels, the second with red lettering piece and lettered and tooled in gilt, the remainder tooled in gilt; all edges gilt (lacking fore-edge ties), comb-marbled end-leaves.
