Medal commemorating the landing of William of Orange at Torbay

This medal celebrates the landing of William of Orange and his fleet at Brixham, Torbay, in Devon on 5 November 1688. The reverse depicts his impressive fleet anchored just offshore with the king on horseback in the foreground, while the obverse (front) shows William in profile. The legend at the top translates as ‘Astraea revisits the Earth’. Astraea, the personification of Justice, was also invoked in celebration of Charles I's restoration in 1660.
