Contemporary English red goatskin comparable to Queen's Binders, the covers tooled in gilt with an over-all strap-work design forming four compartments filled with pointille volutes, circles and dots, with the arms of Catherine of Braganza as Queen of England and Scotland; spine divided into six compartments, the second lettered and the remainder with flower and wheel tools; all edges gilt; comb-marbled end-leaves.

  • Likely presented to Catherine of Braganza by Archibald Campbell, Earl of Argyll. It later came into the collection of the barrister and antiquarian Philip Carteret Webb. Following Webb's death in 1770 it was purchased by Horace Walpole and formed part of his collection at Strawberry Hill. It formed a part of the library of William Beckford at Fonthill Abbey and was later acquired by the Royal Library.
